Children & Teens

Watching your child or teen struggle can feel overwhelming. Whether they’re battling constant worry, intense emotions, or challenges at school and home, it can be hard to know how to help. At Hidden Growth Counseling, we create a safe, supportive space where children and adolescents can explore their feelings, learn new coping skills, and build confidence. Together, we’ll work on the tools they need not just to manage symptoms, but to thrive in their daily lives and relationships.

Many children and teens face emotional, social, and behavioral challenges that impact their self-esteem, friendships, and family life. Your child may be:

  • Worrying constantly about school, friends, or family situations

  • Struggling with daily tasks like homework, chores, or self-care routines due to anxiety or low energy

  • Acting impulsively or becoming easily distracted, which can lead to conflict with peers or missed responsibilities

  • Having frequent anger outbursts or showing argumentative, defiant behavior toward authority figures

  • Battling obsessive thoughts or rituals, such as excessive handwashing, counting, or needing things to feel “just right”

  • Finding it hard to communicate or understand social cues, which can make friendships difficult

  • Avoiding situations that trigger anxiety or obsessive thoughts, leading to isolation or missed opportunities

  • Struggling with emotional regulation, leading to meltdowns, tantrums, or shutting down when overwhelmed

  • Experiencing sensory sensitivities to sounds, textures, or lights that interfere with daily comfort

  • Expressing negative self-talk such as “I’m not good enough” or showing signs of hopelessness

  • Engaging in self-harm or expressing suicidal thoughts as a way to cope with distress

  • Having trouble sleeping due to racing thoughts, fears, or anxiety

  • Blaming others or showing resentment toward authority figures, which can cause tension at home or school

What will your child get out of therapy?

Therapy provides children and teens with tools to understand themselves better, build confidence, and learn healthier ways of coping. In our sessions, your child can:

  • Learn strategies to manage worry and anxiety through calming techniques and thought reframing

  • Build practical skills for organization, time management, and following through with daily tasks
Develop better impulse control, reducing conflict and supporting healthier decision-making

  • Gain tools to regulate anger and emotions, leading to fewer outbursts and improved communication

  • Reduce obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors by learning coping techniques that create relief and freedom

  • Strengthen both verbal and nonverbal communication skills, improving peer and family relationships

  • Increase confidence by challenging negative self-talk and fostering self-compassion

  • Learn to navigate change and transitions with more flexibility and less stress
Improve emotional regulation, giving them healthier outlets for frustration, sadness, or overwhelm

  • Strengthen friendship and social skills by understanding emotions, boundaries, and empathy

Therapy is not about “fixing” your child. It’s about giving them a supportive space to grow, discover their strengths, and develop skills that will carry them into adulthood with resilience, confidence, and hope.
